Queenslanders are battling scorching conditions to start the week as the state heads toward breaking a 21-year-old October heat record.
Sky News Weather meteorologist Rob Sharpe said conditions across the Sunshine State were pushing close to historic territory as the state is baking through another extreme burst of heat.
“They could get close to that mark like we saw yesterday, where Longreach broke its October record by 0.1 of a degree,” he said.
“It’s just one of a series of records that have been broken over the last week and a half for the month of October, with scorching heat continuing in the central west of Queensland.”
Brisbane is bracing for its hottest October day in 21 years, with the mercury expected to reach 37°C.
