Multiple business figures have raised alarm about the state of Melbourne’s CBD while Premier Jacinta Allan has been accused of having her “head in the sand”.

Premier Allan has repeatedly insisted Melbourne’s CBD is safe, while last week she shot back at a reporter for suggesting the city had “lost its way”.

However recently released statistics show crime in the Melbourne LGA has increased by 17.4 per cent, giving it the highest per capita crime rate in Victoria, while City of Melbourne data show just 42 per cent of residents say they feel safe in the city at night.

The CBD’s Worker Activity rate is also stuck at 52 per cent of pre-pandemic levels, while the Property Council of Australia reports that Victoria has the lowest business confidence rate in the country, at -66.8 points.
