Coventry City Council is stepping up its war on fly-tipping with a £420,000 cash boost aimed at the city’s worst-hit areas. Coventry Live readers are unconvinced that this will solve the problem.

The money will fund a new rapid-response “fly-tipping squad” in Ball Hill, extra CCTV coverage at known dumping hotspots, and more street cleaning. Six new cameras will be added over the next four years, taking the total to 30, at an estimated cost of £80,000.

In the past year alone, council teams have handled over 11,000 reports of fly-tipping and investigated more than 3,000 cases. They’ve also issued orders for landowners to clear rubbish and tackle vermin, while fines for offenders have been increased from £200 to £1,000.
