The Australian dollar has started the week off on a high note, with successful US - China trade talks pushing it higher – and forecasters believe there's more good news to come over the next 12 months.

While the Aussie had been hovering around US 65.0 cents for the past week, it gained some upward momentum following a meeting between United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese officials in Malaysia over the weekend.

With economists nervous about trade tensions between the world's two largest economies escalating, negotiators from both Beijing and Washington suggested a positive outcome is likely when presidents Xi Jinping and Donald Trump meet in South Korea on Thursday .
