SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks constantly seeks donors to maintain blood supplies for over 40 facilities across the region, where emergencies can quickly deplete stocks and put lives at risk.
That need became critical for one family when dogs attacked 6-year-old Pearl Hartley in July 2024 in Mansfield. She survived thanks to blood donations from community members.
Pearl Hartley was mauled by six dogs and required emergency transport to Mercy Hospital, where she received two red cell transfusions and one plasma transfusion.
“Six dogs mauled her, and we had to get her into the ambulance, speed her down to Mercy, and she was a recipient of two red cell transplants, and then one plasma at Mercy,” Alesha Hartley, Pearl’s mom, said.
