With the Bihar elections around the corner, the BJP came down heavily on Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for sharing Chhath Puja greetings using the same image he had posted last year. Mocking Gandhi for the token post, BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya said it was more out of "political necessity".
"If you don't have even the slightest sense of attachment to Bihar and its festivals — not even enough to offer heartfelt greetings — then why do you even contest elections?"
"A sacred festival like Chhath is full of faith, tradition, and such vibrant diversity, but you only post old content months later just for show," Malviya tweeted.
The four-day festival, mostly celebrated in Bihar and other parts of eastern India, began on October 25 and will end on November 29.
