AUGUSTA, Maine (WMTW) - The Maine Secretary of State’s Office has decided not to use UPS or the U.S. Postal Service to deliver the remaining 2025 ballots following a situation in Newburgh, where a woman claimed she found 250 blank ballots in her Amazon package .
The Election Day ballots have been delivered to municipalities by a company called Vital Delivery.
Secretary of State Shenna Bellows said Vital Delivery handles things like delivering medical supplies and requires more extensive background checks for employees.
This courier has already delivered all of the state’s Election Day ballots.
This delivery service contract costs $5,000 more than the UPS contract, but Bellows said she felt it was worth spending the money.
