COLUMBIA, S.C. — It is a rainy, cool start to the workweek. The chance for showers will stick around through Wednesday, but Thursday through Sunday should be dry.
Cold air damming—often called “the wedge”—and an upper-level low will bring a stretch of cooler, damp weather to the area through midweek. Rain chances are expected to be highest today and Tuesday, before becoming more scattered on Wednesday. Temperatures will remain below normal through much of the week and into the weekend.
A strong wedge setup will take hold today as high pressure over the Mid-Atlantic pushes cooler air southward, while moist southwest flow aloft and an approaching upper low provide the lift needed for widespread rain.
