It's a cold, but bright and beautiful start to the work week. High pressure is in control over the Great Lakes, keeping storms systems at bay and preventing clouds from developing.
Clear skies are responsible for the chilly early morning temperatures. Heat tends to radiate up and away from the ground overnight. If you've got clouds overhead, it will trap some of that warmth close to the surface almost like a blanket for the ground. But on a clear night, like last night, the opposite takes place. Heat radiates away and we gets cooler and cooler with each passing hour.
