A 67 year-old woman from Greater Manchester has been charged after 25kg of heroin was found in a suitcase at an airport, police said on Monday.

Zahida Perveen, from Aldermoor Close, Openshaw, Manchester, has been charged with conspiracy to import Class A drugs, the National Crime Agency said.

The NCA said a Border Force officer from Birmingham has also been charged with the same offence after an investigation.

Perveen was due to appear before magistrates on Monday morning, together with Syed Shah, the officer, and a third man charged with the same offence, Shahid Butt.

Perveen, said the NCA, was arrested on Friday, October 24, shortly after arriving into Birmingham Airport on a flight from Pakistan.
