A baby found abandoned in a Longueuil bus shelter has died, local police confirmed on Monday.

The newborn had been left in a bus shelter on Chambly Rd. near Briggs St. in Longueuil. Police said they were alerted to the baby’s presence by a 911 call received around 6:30 a.m.

Attempts at resuscitation were made at the scene and the child was rushed to hospital, where the death was confirmed. It was not immediately clear whether the child was dead prior to being left in the bus shelter. An autopsy will likely be performed to determine the precise cause of death.
