KAHULUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Maui community is mourning the loss of councilmember Tasha Kama.

Her family confirms she died Sunday night shortly before 9:30 p.m.

The family wrote on social media that Kama dedicated her life to her family and community with love and compassion.

Kama was first elected to the County Council in 2018 and represented the Kahului area.

She’s the current presiding officer pro tempore and the chair of the Housing and Land Use Committee.

Plans for a memorial service will be announced at a later time.
