(CNN) - Authorities are searching for a 9-year-old California girl who has been missing for weeks.
Investigators in Santa Barbara County say Melodee Buzzard was last seen on Oct. 7 with her mother, Ashlee.
A week later, school officials reported to authorities Melodee had not been in class for two months.
When deputies went to the family’s home, Ashlee Buzzard was there, but not Melodee.
Authorities say Ashlee Buzzard has been uncooperative with investigators.
The FBI believes she took her child on a road trip to Nebraska and then stopped in Kansas earlier this month.
When she was photographed on Oct. 7 at a rental car agency, Melodee was wearing what appeared to be a wig to disguise her natural hair and a hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over her head.
