MASON CITY, Iowa — The Mason City Police Department says it responded to a disturbance just before 4 am Monday at a residence on 29th Street Southwest. Officers say they discovered a man was driving himself to Mercy One hospital with a gunshot wound. Police say they identified the individuals involved and found evidence of a shooting at the scene. A search warrant led to the recovery of a firearm inside the home. Michael Anthony Orozco, 35 of Mason City, was admitted to Mercy One North Iowa with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the abdomen. Cody Dean Dakin, 30 of Mason City, has been charged with being a prohibited possessor of a firearm and is held without bond at the Cerro Gordo County Jail. The investigation is ongoing.
