GAYLORD, MI - If you didn’t have sinkhole lakes on your adventure bucket list, we’re here to say you won’t be disappointed if you go hunting for them the next time you’re near Gaylord.

These seven little jewel-colored lakes are flung across the Pigeon River Country State Forest. They represent a handful of the sinkhole lakes scattered across Michigan, most of which are found in the northeast part of the Lower Peninsula and the eastern Upper Peninsula.

But the ones close to Gaylord are set apart as cool finds, largely because you can reach them for a little swimming, floating or fishing. And also because they are truly quiet little beauty spots in a forest better known for its rustic camping and wild elk viewing.
