JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Court documents released Monday show an off-duty Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy was drinking before a multi-vehicle crash.
Shamonte D. Lanfair, 34, of Birmingham is charged with two counts of first-degree assault. She has been placed on administrative leave, according to a Jefferson County spokesperson.
The crash happened Oct. 8 on Alabama 75 near the 4 mile marker in Jefferson County. Three people, including a 15-year-old, were hurt.
Deputy Lanfair allegedly ran a traffic signal, in a patrol unit, with her emergency lights flashing, according to a crash report.
Authorities say Lanfair hit a Toyota Corolla. After the initial impact the Corolla hit a Camry.
Lanfair was taken to UAB St. Vincent’s East Hospital for treatment.
