HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - There are more than 40,000 people in Connecticut – who are from Jamaica and many of them are panicking right now, concerned for their families.

Hurricane Melissa is a powerful category five storm set to make landfall on Tuesday in Jamaica.

It’s the most powerful storm to hit the Caribbean since 1988.

Every hour or so some residents are calling back home, checking on relatives, making sure they’re okay and wondering how they can help – when the storm’s over.
