BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) - Broome County is set to double the number of mental health crisis response teams on the streets with the assistance of the City of Binghamton.

Mayor Jared Kraham announced on Monday that the city is contributing $100,000 to an integrated mobile crisis intervention service initiated by the county's Department of Mental Health.

The county has issued a Request for Proposals for an agency to provide the counselors who would operate in the community in pairs. They would be dispatched to non-violent mental health calls by the county's 9-1-1 center prior to sending police.
