LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Black veterans and their families were celebrated in a ceremony at Shawnee Park, honoring their service and sacrifices to their country.
The ceremony was put on by Louisville’s Branch of the National Association of Black Veterans.
The branch is part of an organization dedicated to connecting veterans with local resources to ensure they are taken care of.
NABVETS commander for Kentucky, Shedrick Jones Sr., said the resources provided by the organization are now more important than ever for veterans and their families.
“At a time like this, when you have so much need, we have avenues through the Veterans Administration in our contacts that can help if not only lighten the load, but we can press some buttons for the wives and dependents of veterans,” Jones said.
