WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A parolee who served 35 years in prison after a 1985 murder conviction is back in the McLennan County Jail following his arrest Sunday on allegations he attacked a man with a baseball bat.

John David Wilkins, 70, of Elm Mott, remains jailed under $10,000 bail and on a parole violation hold after McLennan County sheriff’s deputies allege he assaulted a man in an attack videoed by witnesses Sunday afternoon in the 200 block of Leroy Parkway in Elm Mott.

According to an arrest affidavit, a deputy was talking to the victim and witnesses Sunday afternoon when one of Wilkins’ neighbors came to the scene to tell the deputy Wilkins wanted to speak to him. The deputy wrote in arrest documents that he arrested Wilkins based on the video of the incident.
