AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – This repair at the Wastewater Treatment Plan is just one of the reasons the Utilities Department says it needs to increase waters rates next year.
“Asking for a six percent and a half percent rate increase because the cost of everything is going through the roof,” said Wes Byne Utilities Department Director.
The Department presented its case during a commission budget session, and pointed out the department is facing almost $70 million dollars in projects needing funding.
There's $27 million dollars in work alone at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The city administrator first recommended a five and a half percent increase, but now a six and a half percent increase is on the table.
