DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — An advertisement displayed at the Durham Food Hall is sparking controversy in the Bull City.

An ICE recruitment ad on a digital billboard inside of the food hall had vendors closing up shop on Friday. It read "Join ICE today... $50,000 signing bonus."

"My community is Durham and when somebody does something to make the people in Durham feel scared for their well-being, that's when I need to kind of jump into action," Little Barb's Bakery owner Barbara Nigro said.

Little Barb's Bakery is one of a few vendors choosing to stay closed. The small businesses are pushing for more accountability and assurance that those kinds of ads won't be shown again.
