Jack DeJohnette, the acclaimed jazz drummer known for his influential work with Miles Davis and Sonny Rollins, has died at age 83 from congestive heart failure, according to his personal assistant.
A representative for ECM, a record label that released many of DeJohnette’s recordings, confirmed his death to the Guardian . The confirmation came after a recent post on the musician’s official Instagram account that showed him smiling with the caption, “Jack looking good.”
When news of DeJohnette’s death on Oct. 26 first circulated, some fans online questioned the reports’ validity, Parade said.
