BARRINGTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Behind a metal fence and "no trespassing" signs on Middle Highway in Barrington stands what's left of the historic Belton Court Mansion. But the property could soon be home to 344 new housing units.

"Belton Court Village," which town planning director Herbert Durfee said is still in the preliminary stages, would include homes, apartments, and walkable retail shops all clustered on the 39-acre property.

"This is clearly the largest development Barrington has seen in a very long time," Durfee said.

The proposal features a mix of single-family homes, apartments, and townhouses, combining local design elements with a recent revival of walkable neighborhoods.
