SALUDA, S.C. — The Saluda County Coroner’s Office is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred late Monday morning on U.S. Highway 178 near Prater Road.

According to officials, a 2005 Honda Accord was traveling west on Highway 178 when it collided with a 2022 Chevrolet Traverse headed east. Each vehicle was occupied by a driver and one passenger.

South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper Brandon Bolt said that the driver of the Honda was evading law enforcement when it drove left of center and struck the Chevrolet head on.

Saluda County Coroner Angie Rita identified the deceased as Shirley Fincher, 76, of Saluda, who was a passenger in the Chevrolet Traverse. Fincher sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
