Red Springs’ Gerardo Marin Amaya and Lumberton’s Nate Lawson each advanced to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association cross country state championships in their respective classifications after strong performances in the regional meet on Saturday.
Marin Amaya finished 19th for the Red Devils at the 4A Central Regional held in Rocky Mount, finishing the race in 20:02.
Red Springs’ Zachary Baker finished 52nd in the race in 27:11. Adlai Berryman of First Flight won the race in 17:08.
In the 7A Central Regional in Cary, Nate Lawson finished 22nd for Lumberton in 16:51.
Nick Lawson was 38th in 17:23 for the Pirates; Brendan Gutierrez was 91st in 21:08, Xan Moody was 95th in 22:53, McLean Deacon was 99th in 23:43 and Aaron Ellison was 103rd in 26:00.
