A teenage boy attacked by a crocodile in Far North Queensland remains in hospital recovering from the horrific attack.

The 14-year-old boy is believed to have been grabbed by a saltwater crocodile while fishing in waist-deep water at Myall Beach in Cape Tribulation about 3.50pm on Saturday.

There are reports the crocodile dragged the boy under the water in a death roll, until one of the teen’s friends was able to grab the reptile’s tail which forced it to let go.

The teen suffered leg and abdominal wounds and was airlifted to Cairns Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

The Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation said rangers were searching the well-known crocodile habitat but are yet to find the animal responsible.
