CANNON BEACH Ore. (KPTV) - The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) is warning the public of an increased risk of exposure to fecal bacteria due to an 80,000 gallon sewage spill near Gower Creek.
According to the City of Cannon Beach, the spill occurred about 10:30 a.m. Monday morning at the Pacific Pump Station - located at 1200 Pacific Avenue in Cannon Beach - near the Gower Street beach access point.
While the spill has been cleaned up, health officials warn that test results from samples taken from the Gower Creek outfall have not yet been received, therefore no formal beach advisory can be issued.
The OHA says to avoid nearby creeks, pools of water on the beach, and water runoff into the ocean in the area, but say other recreational activities on the beach pose no health risk.
