Amadou Hann’s goal with 6:50 left in the first half proved to be the difference as top-seeded St. Benedict’s, No. 1 in the NJ.com Top 20, defeated fourth-seeded and No. 10 Seton Hall Prep in the semifinals of the 51st Essex County Tournament and Allen “Jake” Jacobson Memorial Field in Livingston.
Nathaniel Addo passed it into the box for Hann, who shot it from about 12 yards out for his 18th goal of the season.
Mason Schuler made one save as he and the rest of the St. Benedict’s defense successfully protected the lead and give the Gray Bees their ninth shutout of the season.
St. Benedict’s will look to win its second consecutive ECT title and eighth overall on Thursday when it faces second-seeded and No. 3 West Orange in the final at Caldwell at 5 p.m.
