SHASTA LAKE, Calif. - Residents of Shasta County got their first look at a proposed license plate recognition camera system during a community meeting on Monday night. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office is considering implementing this new technology to help solve crimes.
The automated cameras, made by Flock Safety, would capture vehicle information in real time. This could aid investigators in tracking cases involving stolen vehicles, missing persons, and child abductions.
During the meeting, deputies explained the system and addressed privacy concerns raised by residents. Michele Bodner expressed strong reservations about the program.
