Being easily impressed by zeroes, especially zeroes following dollar signs, I probably wouldn’t have signed off on Ontario’s $75,000,000 ad campaign to remind Americans that Ronald Reagan, the president large numbers of them say was the best since Kennedy, was a strong supporter of free and open trade.

But the ad is artfully done, understatedly evoking “Morning in America” without actually identifying Reagan. No need to, given how familiar his voice still is, even now. He does appear in the last few seconds, reading his free-trade text at his Saturday-morning radio-talk desk, in a (very Canadian, eh?) plaid work shirt with (very Canadian, eh?) dark wood panelling behind him.

And it sure hit a nerve,
