Police have initiated an investigation into an "unexplained" death after a man was discovered deceased on a boat in Norwich city centre. Emergency services were alerted to the scene at Lady Julian Bridge shortly after 1.30pm on Sunday, where they found the body of a man in his 60s.

Norfolk Police confirmed that the man was pronounced dead at the scene following a significant multi-agency response, which included the coastguard, Norfolk Fire and Rescue, and ambulance services. A police spokesperson stated, "Police were called yesterday afternoon (26 October) following reports the body of a man had been discovered on a boat in Norwich. The incident happened at 1.38pm at Lady Julian Bridge. Coastguard, Norfolk Fire and Rescue and ambulance were on scene. The man, in his 60s, was sadly declared deceased at the scene."

Authorities have informed the next of kin and are treating the death as unexplained, although it is not believed to be suspicious. A file is being prepared for the coroner.

The man has been identified locally as Karl Kesper, who was found unresponsive aboard his boat, named the Ringpull. Reports indicate that Kesper had been suffering from ill health. Members of the local boating community have described him as a reclusive yet "happy" individual. One local resident remarked, "Karl was a bit of a recluse, but part of our community. He was happy, as far as I know. The guy had been unwell for some time. He lived on his own and did as he pleased."

The investigation continues as authorities seek to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
