An investigation is underway after one person was killed in an officer-involved shooting in West Point.
According to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, the shooting happened Monday at approximately 10:24 p.m. near the intersection of Plainfield Road and Daniels Circle.
Deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department were responding to an initial report of an individual having a mental health crisis. Upon arrival, deputies encountered the subject with a weapon in his hand. DPS said the subject charged at deputies resulting in the deputies discharging their weapons at the subject.
The subject received fatal injuries. No deputies were injured during the incident.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case and will turn all findings over to the Mississip
