WEST POINT — The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is looking into a fatal line of duty shooting late Sunday night involving the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
According to MBI, the shooting happened around 10:24 p.m. near the intersection of Plainfield Road and Daniels Circle in West Point.
Deputies were responding to a report of a person experiencing a mental health crisis. When they arrived, they encountered an individual holding a weapon, MBI said in a news release. The person then charged at the deputies, who fired their weapons.
The individual died from their injuries. No deputies were physically injured during the incident.
