In what might come as a massive relief to countless Indian cricket fans, star batter Shreyas Iyer underwent surgery after suffering a laceration to his spleen and has recovered since, according to a report in Cricbuzz. He remains stable and is out of the Intensive Care Unit of the Sydney hospital, where he is admitted.

According to the report, Iyer needed surgery for the spleen injury sustained while taking a catch during the third and final ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground last week.

While diving forward to complete the catch on the run, Iyer landed in a bizarre manner, resulting in a ruptured spleen that needed immediate surgery.
