Court TV is broadcasting and live streaming the civil trial in a case brought by the teacher who was shot by a first-grade student at Richneck Elementary School in January 2023.

Abby Zwerner, 28, has filed a $40 million lawsuit against Ebony J. Parker, the former assistant principal at Richneck.

Zwerner and her attorneys allege that Parker ignored several clear warnings that the boy had a gun in school that day.

The trial began with jury selections Monday in Newport News Circuit Court, with opening statements and evidence beginning Tuesday morning.
