MISSOURI (KFVS) - The U.S. Forest Service is planning prescribed fires for the Mark Twain National Forest in November.
The forest service said the prescribed burns are pending required approval, but weather conditions are favorable.
They explained the operation is to help reduce overgrown vegetation to help protect local communities, infrastructure and natural resources from wildfires.
Signs will be posted warning the public about the prescribed fire areas before and during burns.
The prescribed burn areas could also be closed to the public for several days for safety reasons.
In the Heartland, prescribed burns are planned for 275 acres at Butcher Hollow Block 2 in Reynolds County and 225 acres at Turnbough in Wayne County.
County emergency management officials will be notified when
