CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- Around 6:02 p.m. Monday, the Cass County sheriff's office was called to investigate a crash near the intersection of U.S. 12 and M 217 in the Township of Porter.
An investigation showed that a Jeep Liberty was driving east on U.S. 12 when the 42-year-old driver from Vandalia, Michigan, James Hettmansperger, lost control of the Liberty and crossed the centerline.
The Liberty struck the rear end of a GMC Sierra pickup traveling west on U.S. 12 before colliding with the front of the Sierra's connected trailer. Then, the Liberty went off road, coming to a stop alongside a utility pole.
Despite life-saving measures attempted by EMS, Hettmansperger was pronounced dead on the scene from his injuries in the crash. Share
