A new CityNews poll shows Calgarians have strong confidence in their police service — with high approval for both Chief Katie McLellan and front-line officers.

The exclusive survey for CityNews finds more than three-quarters of Calgarians — 76 per cent — say McLellan is doing a good job, while 81 per cent give high marks to front-line officers. The results point to strong local trust in police leadership and day-to-day performance across the city.

“I’m confident about what they’re doing right now, because even in the middle of the night I walk around the streets, I don’t have to worry about it,” said one Calgarian.

But despite the trust in police performance, many polled still feel police need to prioritize clamping down on drug activity, gang violence and robberies — with some Calgaria
