The southbound 405 Freeway was shut down through Irvine Tuesday morning after a motorcyclist was killed in a crash.

California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene just after 5:45 a.m. after receiving a report of a body on the freeway near Bake Parkway.

Investigators learned that a motorcyclist was involved in a crash with an SUV in the southbound lanes approaching the 5 Freeway near the Irvine Spectrum.

The unidentified motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. It was unclear whether the driver of the SUV was injured in the crash.

"I believe it is the fourth motorcycle crash that we've seen so far this morning," KTLA's Ginger Chan said.

The crash forced officials to close all lanes on the southbound side of the freeway for the investigation.
