BEAUMONT, Texas — Jurors in Beaumont Tuesday are hearing the first testimony in the murder trial of Ricky James Johnson, accused of killing a man as he waited at a traffic light more than four years ago.
Beaumont police arrested Johnson in 2021 for the fatal shooting of Korey Green at the intersection of College and 11th Streets. A 23-year-old woman who was with Green was wounded in the shooting. She was able to leave and call for help. Investigators did not say what sparked the shooting beyond saying, “the victims and the suspect were involved in an on-going disturbance.”
Shortly after the shooting says the victims had just left the parking lot of the Paradise Hookah Lounge and were stopped at the traffic light, according to a news release issued by the Beaumont Police Department . T
