LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Sunrise Health System hosted its annual “Crush the Crisis” prescription drug take-back, collecting 191 pounds of unused and expired medications at MountainView Hospital.

The event coincided with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, offering the community a safe and anonymous way to dispose of medications.

Prescription drug misuse remains a growing concern in Nevada. While national overdose deaths dropped 27% last year, fatalities in the state rose.

“Crush the Crisis” is part of HCA Healthcare’s national initiative to combat prescription drug misuse and raise awareness about proper disposal. Last year, Sunrise Health System collected 488 pounds of medication with support from local law enforcement and the DEA.
