Thousands of Target workers in the Twin Cities learned whether they still have jobs on Tuesday as the retailer embarked on major cuts to its corporate workforce.
Incoming CEO Michael Fiddelke announced on Thursday that the company would be eliminating 1,800 corporate positions, of which 1,000 are layoffs predominantly affecting its head office in Minneapolis.
But rather than telling immediately or soon after the announcement, Target pushed back breaking the news until Tuesday, telling staff to work from home this week.
On Tuesday morning, Bring Me The News understands that Target sent an email to all staff who were being laid off at around 8 a.m., asking them to attend a 9 a.m. call titled "HQ Organization Update."
