Despite a fire that temporarily shuttered Schmucker’s Restaurant, Toledo’s pre-eminent pie purveyor, the business will still have pies available for Thanksgiving.

“Our amazing bakers will be making over 1,300 pies for first-come, first-serve purchasing before Thanksgiving,” reads a statement on Schmucker’s Facebook page. “We will not be taking individual orders. We hope you understand and will help make these 1,300 pies go out the door. We’re doing our best for you all.”

A fire Aug. 22 forced the Reynolds Road business to close. The restaurant has been undergoing renovations since and is expected to re-open by the end of November.

Doug Schmucker, the diner’s proprietor, said he felt he had to make Thanksgiving pies available to keep people’s Thanksgiving traditions alive.
