PHOENIX — A former East Valley teacher was sentenced to 187 years in prison earlier this month after being convicted of having sexual relationships with two of his students, authorities announced Tuesday.
Cory Kapahulehua, 44, was sentenced on Oct. 17 after being convicted of 12 counts of sexual conduct with a child, two counts of sexual abuse, and one count each of molestation of a child, attempt to commit sexual conduct with a minor and aggravated assault, according to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.
“The defendant used his position as a teacher to groom these students and take advantage of their trust,” County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said in a press release. “I’m proud of these girls for having the courage to come forward and stop him from victimizing any children ever again.”
