A former priest has been charged in Newcastle with additional historic sexual assault offences following an investigation by police.
Officers attached to Mid-North Coast Police District immediately began enquiries after receiving a report in April.
It’s understood the incidents occurred between 1982 and 1984 at a church in the northern Riverina region.
Following an extensive operation, police arrested a Kotara man, 82, at Waratah Police Station about 9am on Monday 27 October.
He was charged by Mid-North Coast Detectives with an additional three counts of sexual assault (Cat 4) indecent act with person under 16 years of age.
After being granted bail, he’ll appear before Griffith Local Court on Thursday 4 December.
