FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A Fort Smith man accused of trying to set a home on fire with people inside earlier this month has pleaded not guilty, according to court documents.

Salvador Cedillo, 25, was arrested on Oct. 17 for seven counts of attempted murder and two counts of arson. Cedillo is also being charged as a habitual offender.

He pleaded not guilty during a court appearance on Oct. 22. Cedillo's trial was scheduled for March 16 with the plea deadline set for Feb. 25.

The Fort Smith Police Department said officers responded to the 2300 block of High Street just before 5 a.m. for a report of attempted arson.

Investigators said Cedillo allegedly tried to ignite the home while adults and children were inside. He reportedly fled the scene before officers arrived.
