For the past eight weeks, a dedicated group of volunteers from Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum have poured over carefully preserved nets containing thousands of handmade wool poppies honouring the country’s veterans, getting them ready for display.
Calling themselves the Poppy Brigade, the volunteers examined each poppy to ensure they had held up, replacing any that are too tattered. They looked for gaps in the display, adding new poppies — each affixed with four zip ties — where there were holes. And they filled out orders for poppy wreaths — 75 this year — for display at local businesses throughout the heritage district.
