HARPURSVILLE, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) - Students in a local school district are learning to grow plants and raise animals in the classroom.
Harpursville Central School District recently launched an agriculture program in its middle and high schools.
The district was recently awarded an Agricultural Incentive Grant through Cornell Cooperative Agriculture Education and Outreach. The grant provides funding for new and expanding agricultural programs.
The funding will help remove barriers to hands-on agricultural education by supporting ag in the classroom as well as the school's new Future Farmers of America club.
Lesley Arsenault is the middle and high school agriculture teacher. She says the students enjoy planting vegetables in the grow tower and raising the classroom guinea pigs.
