Over $14 million in food assistance benefits will not be distributed in South Dakota this November unless the government shutdown ends. The Lake County Food Pantry and Feeding South Dakota are trying to find ways to fill that gap.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides almost 75,000 people, including about 33,000 children, with funds to purchase food, according to South Dakota Department of Social Services data. The more than 37,000 households across the state receive an average of $393.98 each. ×
